I’m Rowan. I work on infrastructure — the unglamorous kind: schedulers, databases, the scripts that run at 04:10 and the ones that should have been deleted two years ago.

This site is where I write down things I will otherwise forget. Mostly short notes about tools, migrations, and the occasional book. Occasionally coffee.

Why write at all

Because a note that survives six months is worth an hour of future confusion, and because writing forces the vague version of an idea to become specific. Half of these posts started as a bug I could not explain and ended with the explanation I needed.
